Why Do My Legs Fall Asleep When I'm On The Toilet?

Writer Caleb Butler

It happens when we are strained to push during bowel movements that increase abdominal pressure and put tension on our spine. This pressure may lead to the discs of the spinal vertebrae to rub against the nerves of the spine and cause weakness, numbness, and tingling of the feet and legs.

You are also most likely to experience loss of feeling within your lower extremities if you have poor posture. Sitting on the toilet in an unnatural position could cause blood vessels or nerves to be compressed which can cause a tingling feeling. It typically occurs when you lean your knees against your elbows to check your phone.

The tingling sensation is more severe if you remain at the toilet for an extended period of time. If you’re experiencing constipation and your stool isn’t moving rapidly enough, you may experience pain in your lower body when sitting in the toilet.

How can I avoid leg cramps?

Though tingling in the bathroom isn’t something to be concerned about, there are methods to manage tired legs while you’re on the toilet. If you notice an ongoing numbness, seek out the assistance of medical professionals, since it could be an indication of an issue with your health.

Do not lower your feet

A hunched posture is a strain on pelvic muscles, hindering the colon from relaxing fully and easily moving stool. And the longer you have to sit in this position the more likely you’ll feel a tingling sensation within your legs.

The best method to avoid losing sensation in your feet and legs is to ensure you sit in a correct, comfortable position. This is an upright position, with your hips and knees elevated higher than your knees.

Don’t be tard

Do not spend longer than five to 10 minutes at the toilet. And when you’re having trouble getting to move stool, rise and try again after 15 minutes.

Be aware that bowel movements must be simple, fast, and easy. You might need to include more water and fiber in your diet to soften and loosen your stool.
