Why Is My Fireplace Smoking?
David Wilson
What would cause a fireplace to smoke?
A weak draft in a fireplace can cause a fire to die quickly or cause fire by-products to “back-puff,” or build up in the firebox or flue, releasing smoke and potentially harmful vapors like carbon monoxide into the room. Many factors can contribute to a faulty draft.
Is it normal for some smoke to come out of fireplace?
Smoke coming back down the chimney or from the firebox is a sign that something is wrong. Your fireplace and chimney aren’t working as well as they should if you see smoke coming from them.
How do I make smoke come out of my chimney?
Basically, you use some chimney tools to hold a burning object (newspapers work great!) up in the chimney. As a result, there is an updraft, which means that the chimney is filled with air. In this way, the chimney can be used as a smokestack, rather than an air source.
Why is my wood fire so Smokey?
Smoldering wood produces a lot of smoke because smoke begins at lower temperatures than flame. At higher temperatures, the flames burn brighter, releasing a lot less smoke. This is made more difficult by wet wood. To avoid this, use only kiln-dried, dry, and dense firewood in your fireplace.
