Will 35x12.5x20 Fit on 20x9 Wheels?

Writer Sarah Silva

The set of 35×12.5×20 wheels and tires on 20×9 wheels with 5″ backspacing were able to fit, but it took a lot of ingenuity.

This question has been asked so many times over the years that most people aren’t aware that there are different sizes for rims other than 20″.

But once you understand it, it makes sense that it wouldn’t matter what size tire you have as long as you match up the proper width (35″) and height (12-2/5″). If a 35×12.5×20 fits on a 20″ rim, it also fits on any other rim with an 8″ inner diameter.

If you’re looking to buy new wheels and tires, here are some things to consider:

Running a 20×9 wheel with a +18mm offset

If you are running a 20×9 wheel with a +18mm offset you will have 4.5″ backspacing and this setup also clears without any issues. This means you can fit 35×12.5×20 tires on 20×9 wheels.

You can fit 35×12.5×20 tires on 20×9 wheels

You can fit 35×12.5×20 tires on 20×9 wheels, but you will need to use a spacer to achieve the proper backspacing if your wheel is stock.

The overall diameter of a 35×12.5×20 tire is 8” (203mm) larger than the overall diameter of an equivalent 29 inch tire.

If you have 20×9 +38 wheels and want to keep them, then you should be able to use a 285/75-20 tire without any problems.

If you don’t want to go with spacers or modify your wheels and rim profile, then consider replacing your rims for something in the same size (20×9) but more narrow with less backspacing like 215-60-20 or 225-55R19 instead so that all three tires would fit properly on those wide tires without needing any spacers at all!

Conclusion

That’s the long and short of it. If your current vehicle does not fit well on 18-inch rims or 20-inch tires, then you should seriously consider looking at other wheels and tires for your truck or SUV.
