21 Things You Should Know ( Ghibli, GranTursimo, Levante )

Writer John Campbell
Maserati Ghibli SQ4

About 2 years ago, I had no idea what a Maserati was. I remember I was watching a YouTube video of a guy that works for Maserati. He happened to own a Maserati Ghibli SQ4. I really liked how the car looked, and I absolutely loved how the Maserati sounded. Now, this was all from a YouTube video.

Maserati Dealership

I eventually visited Maserati of Central of New Jersey to test drive a Maserati. At the time, I didn’t plan on buying the car. Honestly, I couldn’t afford one at the time. I just knew that I wanted to experience what it was like to drive a Maserati.

Test Driving A Maserati

I went to the dealership and was able to test drive a Maserati Ghibli SQ4. I have to say that the cars are beautiful in person. The car just looked big and sexy. Something different than I was used to seeing on a regular basis.

The test drive lasted about 5 minutes. I enjoyed the entire experience. The exhaust sounded amazing. The interior looked luxurious. I also loved the way that I felt driving the car. How I felt was a big part of the experience.

Something Different

Currently, I own a Maserati Ghibli. I’ve had the car for about 2 years now. I got the car with about 11,000 miles. So, the mileage was pretty low. If I want something, I’m going to go after it, which is exactly what I did with the Maserati. I have a special love for these cars.

The experience of driving a Maserati is an incredible one. The car has 400+ horsepower as well as a Ferrari-built twin-turbo v6 engine. Because I own the car, I can tell you that it’s not slow at all. The car is fast and aggressive. Maserati has a very unique exhaust note, so you can know when one is passing by just by the sound the car makes.

Attention From People

If you don’t like attention, then a Maserati is not the car for you. I can tell you that people notice the car a lot and will ask you a lot of questions about the car. Many times people would come up to me at the light and give me compliments on the car. It was a common occurrence. People notice a Maserati significantly more than they would a BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, etc., The Maserati Trident stands out and looks aggressive. I now have a special love for Italian cars.

I consider myself to be a unique person, I don’t like having everything that everyone has. I guess you can say that I like to stand out. I definitely stand out in a Maserati. People usually ask me what I do for a living or assume that I get all the girls. If you want something different, then definitely get a Maserati.

Maserati and Hate

Maserati gets a lot of love. I haven’t experienced much hate or complaints about people from the car at all. Due to Doug Demuro’s video about why a Maserati Ghibli isn’t worth $85,000, a lot of people online will bash the car and call it trash and garbage, etc.,

What people think about a car doesn’t matter to me and it shouldn’t matter to you. I could have gotten an AMG or M3, I specifically wanted a Maserati. You should do what makes you happy and not care about what people think. Most of the people that hate Maserati’s can’t afford one and have never driven one before. So, I don’t know how anyone can give an opinion about a car that they’ve never driven.

Maserati Maintenance

If you finance or lease a Maserati, you can expect to pay $700 a month or more for the car. Your insurance could be $300+ depending on your driving history. These are some of the things that you need to keep in mind if you plan on getting a Maserati Ghibli, GranTurismo, or Quattroporte.

A Maserati is not a cheap car to maintain. When I first got my Maserati, I had it parked outside of my house and someone hit the car. There was a go fist-size dent on the car. It cost $6,000 to fix it, which surprised me. Insurance paid for it, which caused my insurance to increase.

Cost To Replace Maserati Brakes

It will cost $2,500 to $3,500 to replace all four brakes on a Maserati. I know because that’s what I pay to get mine replaced from the dealership. It all depends on the condition that your car is in. The brakes on my Maserati a big and strong. The car uses Brembo brakes, which gives the car more stopping power.

Ferrari services Maserati’s. So, whenever I get any kind of work done on my car, it’s done by Ferrari. I have to conclude that this has a lot to do with the maintenance costs.

Even if you can afford to make the monthly payments for a Maserati, you have to factor in maintenance costs as well. I had to pay $800 to get my car serviced. So, these costs can add up fast.

Depreciation

Maserati’s are exclusive cars. You’re not going to see a lot of them on the road. You will see a lot more BMW’s and Mercedes on the road than Maserati’s. All cars depreciate. As soon as you drive the car off the lot, the value is going to drop. That’s pretty much how it is with luxury cars. Depreciation is definitely a problem with Maserati’s. So, that’s one thing that you need to keep in mind if you plan on buying one.

Cool Features About A Maserati That Most People Don’t Know

1. Power Pedals

The gas and brake pedals in a Maserati are power controlled. There’s a button below the site that you can press, which will allow you to adjust the pedals. I’ve never seen that in another car before. I’m sure it exists but it’s most likely rare and is probably only in luxury and sports cars.

2. Power and Adjustable Steering

You can press a button and adjust the steering wheel to come closer to you or further away from you. This feature is not exclusive to Maserati’s. It’s definitely in other cars. I’ve had old Mercedes that could do the same thing.

3. Paddle Shifters

I love the paddle shifters in my Maserati Ghibli; they are big and feel great on my hands. The paddle shifters are great for driving the car in manual mode, which is something that I rarely do. I let the automatic transmission do its thing.

4. DVD Playback And Movies

You can actually play DVDs in a Maserati Ghibli. This is something that I did not know the car could do at all. I’ve seen a lot of car reviews on the car but no one mentioned this feature, not even dealers, except for one guy. I came across a YouTuber that has the car. He mentioned that he accidentally found out that you can play DVDs in the car. He put a DVD in the CD drive by accident and that’s he found out that he could watch movies in the car.

I was pretty curious about this. I went to Walmart and bought a DVD, Justice League. I put the DVD in the car and it worked. You will get access to new settings that are specific to playing DVDs in the car. The DVD will still play when you’re driving. However, for safety reasons, only the sound will play. If you come to a complete stop, then the video will play on the infotainment system in the car.

5. Auto-Dimming Headlights

I never manually turn the high beams on in my Maserati at all. If I’m driving on a dark road, the high-beams come on automatically on their own. Once the car detects that another vehicle is coming, it turns the high beams off. Also, the lights turn or move in the direction of the steering wheel. When driving the car at night, I can actually see the lights move on the road in the direction that I’m turning the steering wheel; I think that’s pretty cool.

6. Parking Brakes

The car has automatic parking breaks. You can turn this feature on or off if you want to. When you park the park, the parking brakes automatically come on. When you put the car in drive, it turns off on its own. Also, if you’re in the car and you get out of the car while it’s in drive, the car isn’t going to roll away; the car will automatically put the car in park, which is a pretty cool safety feature.

7. Roll Down Windows With The Key Fob

You can use your Maserati key to roll down the windows. To do this, point the key fob at the car and press and hold the unlock button. Once you do this, all of the windows will roll down. This can be useful when it’s hot in the summertime. However, there is no way to roll the windows back. I guess this for safety reasons.

8. Remote Start

Not all Maserati’s have remote start. However, my Ghibli has the feature. I absolutely love it. I can start my car and turn it off without having to be in the car. This is very useful in the wintertime too. You can start your car and let it warm up. If you remote start your car, it will shut down after 15 minutes. If this happens, you can start it again. However, if 15 minutes go by again, the car will shut off one final time. When this happens, you will have to manually start the car.

9. Start The Car in Sport Mode

For a stock exhaust, the car is pretty loud. However, if you want to do a loud cold start, you can press the start button in the car twice. From there, press the sport mode button to put the car in sport. Press the start button one more time and the car will start in Sport Mode. I’ve done this, and it’s very loud!

10. Are Maserati’s All Wheel Drive

Maserati’s can be a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive car. The models that are SQ4 are all-wheel-drive. 4 wheel drive Maserati’s are pretty good in the snow. I haven’t had any issues with driving the car in the snow. I think it handles the snow quite well.

11. Are Maserati’s Any Good?

Based on my own experience, yes, Maserati’s are good cars. I haven’t experienced any issues of any kind with the car. It drives great without any major issues. No car is perfect. It also depends on how you drive and take care of the car. To me, Maserati’s aren’t bad cars. Everyone will have a different experience. So, that depends on the driver.

12. Are Maserati’s Reliable?

Yes, Maserati’s are very reliable. If you main your car properly, you shouldn’t run into any major issues. Make sure to change your oil and get the maintenance done. Obviously, if you drive your car a lot, that will affect its reliability.

13. How Fast Does A Maserati GranTurismo Go?

The speedometer on a Maserati GranTurismo goes all the way to 200 miles per hour. The car has a limiter on it, so it will probably only go to 175. The car will do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. I’ve driven a Maserati GranTurismo, and I can tell you that it’s not faster than a Ghibli SQ4. It didn’t feel any faster to me.

14. Is A Maserati A Supercar?

No, a Maserati is not considered to be a supercar. Maserati’s are fast, however, supercars are on another level.

15. Is Maserati Better Than Mercedes?

Better is subjective. Mercedes and Maserati are both awesome sports and luxury cars. I’ve always been a fan of Mercedes. However, I like Maserati better. Maserati’s are more exclusive. It all depends on what you want.

16. Is Maserati Made By Chrysler?

Yes, Maserati is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Most of the parts inside of a Maserati are made by Chrysler.

17. Should I Buy A Used Maserati?

Not all Maserati’s are the same. If it’s too cheap, I’d be cautious. There’s a lot of maintenance that can come along with a used Maserati. I got my Maserati Certified Preowned. It also came with a warranty as well. That’s your best option so that you don’t have to pay out of pocket if something goes wrong.

18. Which Country is Maserati Made in?

Maserati’s are made in Italy. The original Maserati factory is in Modena, Italy. The performance cars have been produced in Italy since 1914.

19. What Makes Maserati Special?

Maserati has a history of being known for luxury and performance. Its Trident logo also stands out. Class, style, speed, luxury, and performance are what Maserati is about.

20. When Was The First Maserati Made?

The first Maserati was made on December 1, 1914, in Bologna, Italy.

21. Is A Maserati A Ferrari?

No, a Maserati is not a Ferrari. However, Maserati has a Ferrari-built engine. So, that’s pretty much how both cars connected.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love my Maserati Ghibli SQ4. I love how the car makes me feel when I drive it. I don’t care about what other people think about the car. It’s not the fastest car, however, it’s fast enough. Also, it doesn’t have the most technology. However, that doesn’t matter to me at all. I’m glad I got this car. Driving a Maserati makes me want a Ferrari 812 Superfast. In fact, that is my next dream car. I’m a big believer in manifesting my thoughts and making my dreams a reality. When I get my Ferrari, I will definitely write a review about it. Until then, stay tuned!
