60 Inch Fireplace? - Kylon Powell

Writer Emily Cortez

How big should a fireplace be on a wall?

You must first measure the mantel (or wall finish) and then work backwards to get the right proportion. Assume 18″ on each side for a typical non-combustible surround and wood mantel, and 24-inch on each side for a more grand design.

Can a fireplace be too big for a room?

The size of the fireplace should match the room’s dimensions, regardless of its heat output or TV screen size. In a large room, a small fireplace will be overlooked. A large fireplace, on the other hand, can overwhelm a small space. However, we find that clients are far more likely to go too small than they are to go too large.

What is the best height for a fireplace?

It’s perfectly fine to raise these fireplaces 6 to 12 inches off the ground. To ensure that the flames can be seen from the bed, we recommend placing them even higher in the bedroom. So the fireplace may be anywhere from 24 to 36 inches off the ground.

What is the average fireplace size?

The average fireplace is 36 inches by 30 inches, but there is a wide range of fireplaces on the market. 24 inches by 24 inches is the most common fireplace size.

How far away from a fireplace should a TV be?

A mantel must separate a fireplace from a television by at least 20 inches. In addition, there should be at least 7-8 inches of space between the top of the mantel and the TV. To avoid eye strain while watching television, keep the screen at least 65 inches above the ground.
