The city’s stock of apartments with wood-burning fireplaces, which were banned a few years ago, isn’t growing, but there are still plenty of cozy fireside apartments available.

The NYC Building Code no longer permits them. Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced on Earth Day 2014 that new wood-burning fireplaces would be prohibited in New York City as of July 1, 2014 as part of a clean air initiative and in line with other environmentally friendly cities.
