Andrew Davis
Are Akrapovic exhausts street legal? The answer is yes and no. The Akrapovic slip-on “evolution” line is intended for off-road use only.

They also have a full line of “street legal” exhausts designed for street use. It is perfectly fine for track use.
These exhausts look almost identical to the non-street legal version. With just a few cosmetic changes for the catalytic converter mounts.

Although the Akrapovic slip-on exhausts are available for street and track use. Only the “evolution” line of slip-on is intended for off-road use. The other versions of Akrapovic exhausts are street legal and can be used on your bike as long as it’s registered in your state.
Not legal in the USA
Unfortunately, the Akrapovic systems are not legal in the USA and also not in some other countries, including the UK and Japan. If you want to check if your country’s system is street legal, it’s best to contact Akrapovic directly.

Aftermarket catalytic converter/resonator
If you want to use this exhaust on public roads, it will be illegal unless you have an aftermarket catalytic converter/resonator installed.
This is the case because Akrapovic makes their exhausts for racing purposes only, not for street use.
It doesn’t pass emissions testing and won’t be street legal because its design allows too much-unburned fuel into the atmosphere.
Come in two flavors
The Akrapovic exhausts come in two flavors – one intended for off-road use only and another designed to be street legal.
If you want to go down this route, I recommend contacting Akrapovic directly and asking them what their recommendations are for the specific components you want to buy.
Conclusion
If you are looking for an exhaust intended for street use, I would suggest going with one of the options from Brocks or Yoshimura.
They both make excellent exhausts designed to be street legal and will not require additional modifications to use on a public road.
If you want something more exotic and high-end, then it might be worth checking out Akrapovic’s offerings.
