Are there red ants that are not fire ants?

It is possible that some red ant species and some fire ant species are not the same color. In reality, only a small percentage of ants are truly red.

Are red ant and fire ants the same?

Insects that look like red ants are actually fire ants. A species of stinging ants known as “fire ants” is part of the Solenopsis genus. It’s hard to miss fire ants because of their distinctive red and black coloring. Red ants and fire ants are distinguished by the color of their bodies.

Are the big red ants fire ants?

They have a painful sting, but they’re not considered a nuisance by many. The eggs are laid by the females in bumblebee nests, which is how they got their name. Fire ants are commonly mistaken for these large, red, venomous insects. With the largest workers being two or three times larger than the smallest, fire ants are actually quite small (1/16 to nearly 1/4 inch long).

What states have red ants?

Imported fire ants are currently found in all or part of the following states: Alabama; Arkansas; California; Florida; Georgia; Louisiana; Mississippi; New Mexico; North Carolina; Oklahoma; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; and Virginia. They’ve been found in Kentucky, Missouri, and Maryland, but only on rare occasions.

Are red ants worse than black ants?

Unlike black ants, red ants can be more aggressive and cause damage to your home if left unchecked. Things can get worse if you come across fire ants, which inject a toxin into your system when they bite.
