What are inflatable kayaks?
Inflatable kayaks are kayak-shaped vessels made of a strong and sturdy material that is able to be easily folded and stored. They can also be carried by hand, which makes them very easy to transport.
Are inflatable kayaks safe?
This is a very commonly asked question. The answer, by all means, is yes! They are safe if used properly. Some users have reported that inflatable kayaks can be difficult to maneuver at times due to their lightweight and tippiness especially when not inflated enough. However, this does not render them unsafe. Similar to other types of kayaks, inflatable kayaks need to be used correctly in order not to cause any harm.
What are the safety precautions when using inflatable kayaks?
Many users have reported that injury may come about if people enter or exit their kayak in a manner that makes it rock back and forth. A good practice is to get into your inflatable kayak from either shore or another less probable source of movements such as another boat, dock, or pool edge. When getting out of an inflationaly kayak, again it should be done in a manner so as not to rock the vessel because it can lead to capsizing which poses serious risks over time. Additionally, since inflatable kayaks are typically smaller than other types of kayaks, they are meant to be used on calm waters. If you try using this type of craft in rough conditions, there is a high chance that you will capsize and your chances of survival will become very slim.
What can happen if inflatable kayaks are used improperly?
If the vessel is not inflated enough it can lead to capsizing which can cause serious injuries to yourself or others nearby. If the vessel is over-inflated, it may pose some difficulties in maneuverability when paddling through rough waters making it easier to tip over. There have also been reports of boat material ripping due to incorrect storage after use, sharp objects along the way puncturing holes in inflatable kayaks, and so on. These issues, however, occur only when not used or stored properly.
Painting your inflatable kayak can also be a very good idea so it will look more eye-catching and easier to spot in case of an emergency.
