Fall is by far the busiest time of year for snakes, with more activity than at any other time. Most snakes are born in the summer months of July through September in the United States. Once their first meals are available in the fall, these baby snakes will be much easier to spot.

In North America, snakes are most active from April to October and hibernate during the cold months outside of that range. However, “snake season” does have its exceptions. As a result, they’re becoming more and more commonplace.
At what temperature are snakes inactive?
What temperature does it take for snakes to go dormant? Below 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius), snakes become lethargic and unresponsive. The snake enters brumation when its body temperature drops steadily. Temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius) will reactivate the snake.

Unfortunately, “snow snakes” don’t exist. In the winter, snakes aren’t out and about and aren’t looking to pounce. A snake may occasionally stir in the dead of winter, perhaps in search of water to replenish its fluid reserves. Returning to their hibernation chambers, they will then re-warm themselves.
