An official with the province of Newfoundland and Labrador’s wildlife department says the island has snakes, despite the fact that they are not native to the province.

An animal must first cross a large body of cold saltwater or, in the colder months, an ice bridge connecting Newfoundland to the mainland in order to get there. Snakes and other cold-blooded reptiles and amphibians, for example, could not do this.
