Can a bumblefoot kill a rat?

Writer Rachel Davis

Get your hands on some Blu-Kote and, using a Q-tip, apply Fat Rat on her back while also dabbing the bumbles with it to make them disappear. Caution is advised because blue-kote stains like crazy! In addition to drying the bumbles, the antiseptic will kill them. If they appear to be infected, she will require oral antibiotics.

When we moved here, my rat developed bumblefoot, and the Soother Plus ointment that they offer at the vet was quite effective. Polysporin had been used to the sore before I took her to the veterinarian for treatment; but, after applying the Soother Plus to the sore for a few minutes, she began to enjoy the process. It helped a little with the sore (the bleeding ceased completely) and a great deal with the pain.

When rat developed a sore that wouldn’t heal and Sophie acquired a necrotic tumour, I used it on both of them to help them heal. Although it contains uric acid . and aids in the healing process, it does not include antibiotics, unlike Polysporin, therefore licking it off will not result in diarrhoea or the killing of beneficial bacteria in the intestines. Everything about this product is wonderful; however, the only drawback is that it comes in a soft plastic tube, which all rats seem to enjoy eating. As a result of this, every time I’ve used it, I’ve had to fight rats off because they were trying to eat the tube while I was applying it to a needy rat.

Because male mice fight more than female mice, abscesses are more common in male mice than in female mice. Bumble foot is simply a slang word for the abscesses that can be found on the feet of rodents. In nature, bacteria may be found everywhere, and if the animal walks on a surface that is too rough, foot bumblefoot can develop as a result. Stool samples from animals have been discovered to contain bacteria.
