Can dogs eat potato chips?

Writer Rachel Davis

Sharing salty items with your dog, such as chips or pretzels, is not a smart idea, according to experts. When your dog consumes an excessive amount of salt, he will become extremely thirsty. This will result in a significant number of trips to the fire hydrant, which may result in sodium-ion overdose.

While a single or two chips is unlikely to cause harm to your dog’s health, sharing these salty goodies on a frequent basis poses a threat. Another option is to request that your chips be served without salt, which is something that most businesses are delighted to accommodate. Although the fat content is still an issue, it is at least better for your dog’s health.

Dogs may be able to consume potato chips without harm depending on the amount consumed, but it is still not recommended for them. After a couple of chips, they may be alright, but these treats provide little nutritional value and, more importantly, include a high concentration of processed substances, which can cause health problems in dogs.

As is always the case, you should consult your veterinarian before feeding your dog any human food, even potato chips.

The majority of potato chips are devoid of any nutritional value and contain no vitamins at all. In fact, they contain a high concentration of refined oil, fat, and sodium, none of which are beneficial to your dog’s overall health.
