Will glass break if steamed?
At a temperature of about 800 degrees Celsius, glass begins to melt. The glass will not melt in any steamer or, to be honest, with any equipment you might have at home. What’s really at stake here is thermal shock, which occurs when a hot piece of glass is rapidly cooled to a cold one.
Can I use glass plate for steaming?
Use a pie dish made of pyrex or another oven-safe material. Once the dish of food has been placed on the rack above the water, cover the lid and turn on the heat. You should leave enough space between your dish’s outer edges and your pot’s side to allow steam to rise and cook your food.
Can you steam with a glass lid?
It’s easy to simmer or steam food with a glass lid on top; for steaming, use a steamer basket on a metal rack or trivet. The small hole at the top of the lid should be sufficient for ventilation.
