Though they lack the mental capacity to show affection, snakes are more accepting of their owners who provide them with food and water. When they don’t act threatened and let you handle them, they’re showing their acceptance of your authority.

Snakes have evolved to be solitary creatures, so they aren’t particularly fond of cuddling. Unlike mammals and birds, snakes do not appear to respond to physical contact in the same way as snakes.
