Can you eat trout raw?

In this article, I will try to clear up the question about the raw consumption of trout. In Norway, where I live, there is a well-known fishing site that has been used by locals for many years. This site contains a clean and cold stream where you can find lots of nice trout. Many people come here fishing every day, and the fish is locally traded and used as food. Some people eat the fish raw, however, this depends on the person and not everyone in Norway eats trout raw.

My girlfriend and I bought a whole fish and tried to eat it, but after a couple of minutes, we didn’t like the taste anymore and threw the rest away. So what did we taste?
The fish had an unpleasant smell and a very strong aftertaste. Since we only ate the flesh, we couldn’t tell if this was also due to the taste of the intestines and slime. The fish was extremely slimy and hard to handle, and we had a hard time removing the bones without making a mess with all the slime and blood.
I know that when eating sushi in Japan and Korea, people eat whole (raw) fish. But in these two countries, it is also normal to eat raw vegetables and meat in salads, something that Scandinavians generally don’t do.
So what about the parasites? Researchers from NIFES (Norwegian institute for food safety) found a total of 22 different parasites in the trout that I had eaten. Among these, five tapeworms and one fluke were discovered. So what about the effect on my body? Well, it is impossible to tell since these two parasites bore their way through the intestinal walls and end up in your bloodstream
