Do they have to put you to sleep for a root canal?

Root canals are a procedure in which the patient is most likely to be awake during the procedure. Although the thought of having a root canal terrifies some people, it is a common procedure for saving teeth and relieving pain associated with decay. Typically, the dentist will administer a local anesthetic before beginning treatment.

How painful is a root canal?

The use of local anesthetic and modern endodontic techniques has made root canals no more painful than filling a cavity for many patients. During the procedure, most patients report feeling pressure and movement, but no pain.

Is anesthesia given during root canal?

In order to minimize discomfort, your dentist will first apply a local anesthetic to the area. During the cleaning, you may still feel some pressure, but you shouldn’t be in pain. After a root canal, you may feel some discomfort and sensitivity as the anesthetic wears off.

Can I be put to sleep for dental work?

Only under general anesthesia can you get a true night’s sleep during your dental treatment. General anesthesia renders patients unconscious during all phases of treatment. This ensures that even the most advanced oral surgery is performed in complete tranquility and peace of mind.
