Can you leave soaker hose out winter

Writer Ethan Hayes

Yes, you can leave your soaker hoses out over the winter months. try to remove as much water from them as possible, but if that is not possible then leave them on and cover them with mulch or leaves for added protection.

we should remember that the hose will probably still work in the spring. if your house is under snow, then simply cover it with a layer of mulch or leaves for added protection.

Here are some guidelines to follow during the winter months:

The first thing you want to do is bring your hoses indoors to drain any water leftover anywhere they are stored.

You don’t want any water to freeze left inside your hoses as this will cause cracks during the spring thaw.

in addition, make sure there’s no water in the holes at the end of your soaker hoses before you store them for winter (the ON/OFF valve used with some types is extremely sensitive and will burst if water freezes within it). Next, coil up your hoses neatly and wrap them with either plastic or fabric material that can breathe to protect from sunlight damage.

If you have had issues with rodents chewing through the hose, then place them into a large bin along with leaves or mulch to avoid mice nesting around them. This is especially important if young ones are nearby as mice are particularly fond of the taste of the rubber inside your soaker hoses. Lastly, layout your hoses on a flat surface in an orderly fashion and cover them with leaves or other protection from sunlight to avoid cracking and warping.

if you keep all these tips in mind then you should be able to enjoy working with your watering system in spring and summer and leave it protected for winter use (and beyond).
