Can You Mix Engine Oils?

Writer Caleb Butler

Everyone knows that engines can’t function without oil. It’s essential when it comes to lubricating moving components in order to decrease friction, and to keep keeping in mind the possibility of prolonging its lifespan. Each one has its pros and drawbacks. Each performs differently in various conditions.

The good thing is that by mixing different types of oils won’t harm your engine in the short-term. The majority of synthetic and semi-synthetic oils are made from regular oil and can be used together. No undesirable by-products are produced when different types of oils are mixed. This means that the engine will perform perfect. The days of switching between mineral and synthetic oil was not advised because there were issues with seal leaks and abnormally high consumption of oil. In reality, in areas that the vehicle has to go in extreme conditions, where temperature fluctuations can be particularly extreme, motorists change from mineral oil to synthetic during winter months, and vice versa.

Natural Oil as well as Synthetic Oil

The problem is that it won’t provide the advantages you believe it will. Mixing different oils won’t increase the efficiency or performance of your engine, in no way. The additives found in synthetic oils could have a limited or no impact when combined with regular oil. Mixing different blends of synthetic oil however can have negative consequences in the long-term since the additives can react.

There is no need to be concerned about mixing one with one in any way since they’ll easily make a mixture. It is possible to use 1 liter of 5W30 in combination with 5W40 and be safe and not cause negative effects on the engine. But it is recommended to stick with one type of oil until you are ready to empty your vehicle and then fill it with. It is recommended only to top off your vehicle with oil that are of different grades if you’re running out of fuel and are in the middle of nowhere, or the oil you originally utilized is no longer available on the market.
