Writer Rachel Davis

Can you put ammonia in carpet cleaner?

To use it for carpet cleaning, you’ll need to mix it with ammonia. If you mix the powder with warm water, you will have a liquid that can be used to remove any type of dirt or stain from your carpet.

What does ammonia do to carpet?

Ammonia can discolor carpet fibers, so be careful when using it. Ammonia is corrosive due to its high alkaline content. Corrosive chemicals can fade carpet colors and eat away at carpet adhesives and backings, causing more serious damage.

What can I mix with carpet cleaner?

Dirty carpets can be cleaned with a mixture of vinegar, soap and fabric softener and hydrogen peroxide. Add the mixture to an almost full gallon of very hot water and stir gently to combine. To finish it off, add a few drops of warm water. Tip the jug back and forth gently to incorporate the ingredients (avoid suds and bubbles).

How do you make ammonia solution for cleaning?

Mix 14 cup ammonia with 1 gallon of water in a bucket and use a sponge or a mop to liberally apply the solution.
