No. There’s no need for you to wait. As you ride, the pad will help to dry out that area of your back. The horses are going to be just fine.

Can you ride a muddy horse?

Deep, sticky mud is not an ideal riding surface, and you should avoid it at all costs. It is possible to injure a horse’s leg tendons and ligaments if the mud is too deep. Even the best arena can become a muddy swamp when it rains. Give your horse a day off if your barn’s arena gets too muddy and sticky from rain.

This can be done with a little elbow grease, a few fleece or wool coolers, and even a walk around the property if you have the time. In order to begin absorbing moisture into the cooler, toss a cooler over the sweaty areas of your horse’s skin and coat after you’ve returned from your ride and untacked him.

Can a wet horse be blanketed?

Putting a blanket on a wet horse is perfectly acceptable. As the horse sweats, it will be wicked away by the blanket and evaporate. Check on the horse later and he will be dry under the blanket.
