You can use instant coffee if you’re looking for something that isn’t too bitter. You can use instant espresso powder or freshly brewed espresso if you don’t have instant (2 tablespoons espresso to 1 tablespoon white sugar, no boiling water needed, per person). Freshly ground coffee beans should NOT be used.
