Do birds have knees or elbows?

A small patella, or knee cap, is present. Birds do, in fact, possess a shin bone. The femur is the bony upper thigh bone. On one end, it attaches to the tibiotarsus, and on the other, it attaches to the hip socket.

Why are birds knees backwards?

It’s not quite there yet! Their “knee” joint is actually their ankle joint, which you might mistake for their knee. Their knee is higher up on the leg, but it does bend in the same direction as ours when we bend it forward. Basically, this means that birds walk on their toes!
