Do k&n filters come pre oiled?

Writer Rachel Davis

Most K&N air filters are pre-oiled, ready-to-use. They are wrapped in a clear wrapper and are accompanied by the phrase “Factory Pre-oiled and Ready to Install”. The oil used in our filter is red. A newly oiled filter appears red-pink. Certain crankcase vent air filters are not oiled, but they are supplied with a tiny package with K&N filter oil, so they can be coated prior to use. There is also a restricted amount of filters that have special applications that aren’t pre-oiled. These filters will be clearly labeled as non-oiled. The use of the unoiled K&N filter can significantly decrease the efficiency of the filter and will end our warranty on filters that are already oiled in the factory.

Follow the oiling directions provided inside the Recharger cleaning kit. You can also contact customer service if have any questions about the oiling procedure.

K&N has developed methods for measuring airflow as well as Pressure differential (restriction) of the different dimensions and shapes of the filters we make. The procedures are used to ensure that there is a uniform analysis of airflows in filters made from different materials or made.

The flow of air isn’t the only aspect to be considered when designing the K&N performance air filter. K&N puts the highest priority on dirt retention as well as filtration efficiency. K&N has its own filtration lab that includes two test equipment that was developed in conjunction together with Southwest Research Institute and performs tests on filters in the factory air box as well as in the SAE/ISO-approved testing housings.
