Mice don’t seem to be attracted by budgies in themselves however they do draw attention to food scraps and seeds and food scraps, so if your cage is messy or food items and seeds out outside and attract mice.Having budgies doesn’t mean that you have a problem with mice in the long run, as being careful and take measures to keep mice away from hanging about.

Mice are thought to be an omnivore that is opportunistic, which means they consume almost whatever they come across in their surroundings. Their most favorite food items in the wild are grains and seeds. The seeds and grains are also known to be among the budgie’s most loved food sources. This is the reason mice cause problems for pet owners. The most frequent reasons mice are attracted to the cage of budgies is because of the availability of water and food, which includes:

  • Bowls of seeds, tray, and containers
  • Fresh vegetable treats
  • Discarded seeds, seed husks, vegetable scraps as well as
  • Water

A budgie’s cage that is constantly filled with seeds, water, and the occasional vegetable scrap could look like a buffet for a hungry mouse. The danger that mice will be attracted to your home is enhanced if you allow the seeds, seed husks, and food scraps to build up at the bottom of or around the cage.

Mice may also be lured to stay within a budgie’s cage if it’s an excellent mouse habitat particularly if the cage is outside and not mouse-proof.In addition to the unpleasantness that they bring to your home or around it they can pose some dangers for your budgies, too. Mice are thought of as carriers of specific illnesses and bacteria. They are transmitted to your pets through direct contact with urine, droppings, or food contamination. Mice may also carry mites and fleas that could spread to pet budgies. Mice have been reported to get into nest boxes of budgies and eat eggs, as well as attack chicks nesting in the nest. Mice are also a prolific chewer and can easily cause damage to or destruction of items, cages or even containers.
