It’s important to remember that neoprene stretches both when wet and over time from repeated use. If you’re unsure of your wetsuit size or are in the middle of two sizes, go with the one that fits snugger.

Get a feel for it by moving around, stretching, and swinging your arms. Remember that your new wetsuit will become more flexible and loosen slightly after it has been wet. For this reason, we recommend choosing a suit that is just a smidge tighter than loose.
Do wetsuits loosen when wet?
Make sure you are comfortable in your wetsuit before your first swim or surf session. When you’re out of the water, it will always feel tighter. Once it’s filled with water, it’ll feel a little more comfortable.

While all neoprene stretches to some extent, the higher the grade, the more it will stretch. Standard neoprene is cheap and will stretch a little. Wearers will have the least restrictions with “superstretch” neoprene that can stretch up to 300 percent.

It should be snug, but not so tight that it restricts your movement. Compression shorts are a good comparison for how a Wetsuit should fit. Wearing a tight-fitting garment at first may be uncomfortable, but it will keep you warm and buoyant.

An ideal wetsuit should be extremely snug around your entire body, with no room for error. Wetsuits are meant to feel like a Second Skin with minimal wrinkles across the major areas of the suit (torso, arm and leg circumference, thigh circumference) and no gathering in the underarm or crotch.
