Does Eucalyptus Repel Wasps? - Kylon Powell
Caleb Butler
With more than 30 000 species that are known to exist roaming across the planet Wasps are predatory flying insects that belong to the order of “Hymenoptera,” that can reach a size of up to 1.5 inches in length. They have a slim body, legs with fewer hairs, and stingers. Since they are predators, wasps are an essential part of the ecology. But, they can be an extreme annoyance as well, particularly for people who are allergic to their stings.

Many insects, including wasps and gnats, stay clear of strong smells as they can be dangerous. Eucalyptus does not just have a strong scent, but in many regions of the United States, it’s also considered to be a mystery and therefore viewed as potentially risky. Make a repellent spray adding one teaspoon of eucalyptus oil to 1 cup of water inside a bottle recommends the Pest Guidance. Shake the mixture well and then apply the spray to plants or any other area in the garden where wasps have been observed. Oil will split from the water So shake it before every application. Spray should be applied at least each day for three days. The spray can also be employed to repel insects on pets and people.
Scale insects like whiteflies, aphids, mites, and earwigs can be killed upon contact with eucalyptus oils. To combat these pests, mix 1 teaspoon of eucalyptus oil, 1 teaspoon hand dish soap, and 2 cups of water. Shake thoroughly using a spray bottle before you apply it to the plants. Repeat this process every three days until the pest is gone.
Spreading mulch around the garden improves soil conditions and assists in controlling the growth of weeds. By using shredded or chipped Eucalyptus bark or wood may also keep wasps away. Eucalyptus mulch naturally has the oil from eucalyptus. When the mulch is walked over or smashed down into the soil it releases oil slowly through the interior and outside of it.
The slow release of oil can repel or kill insects for several weeks. If eucalyptus mulch isn’t readily available, eucalyptus oil may be sprayed in full strength on pine mulch, and then allowed to absorb. The addition of eucalyptus oil onto mulch won’t last the same amount of time as eucalyptus does, but it will be more durable than the sprays.
Although many believe that all-natural remedies are safe for animals and humans, these remedies should be handled with care. Eucalyptus oil is commonly used in the commercial market for medicines, but exposure to undiluted oil could result in skin irritation. If consumed in large doses the oil of eucalyptus can cause harm. Be careful in handling oil in a safe manner and keep pets and children from inhaling the spray or the oil that is used to maintain the garden. Furthermore, eucalyptus oils are extremely flammable and are not recommended to be used in close proximity to hot sources or flames which could spark the oil.
