Does skydiving hurt your stomach?
Emily Cortez
When compared to riding a roller coaster, skydiving is a very different experience.

When you get off a plane, the most evident difference is that there is no “falling” sensation as there is with flying (as opposed to the stomach-wrenching ker-KLUNK that socks you one when your roller coaster car dives over the edge of that first slope). A rollercoaster’s peak causes your stomach to plummet as a result of the fast increase in speed that occurs as you near the top of the ride. Because the floor (or a chair, or a roller coaster seat) is pressing against our bodies and holding us in place, the force of our bodies is held up. Our bodies lose their ability to support their own weight when they fall — when there is nothing to keep them from falling. That’s exactly what astronauts are experiencing as they float around in their spacecraft during their mission.
Stress hormones are transmitted from the brain to the stomach, where they are programmed to activate the stomach’s nerve endings. In stressful circumstances, the stomach slows down as a result of the release of stress hormones, which allow more blood to be supplied to the heart, lungs, and muscles. It is possible to avoid this by taking motion sickness medications, such as Marezine or Dramamine, for the prescribed amount of time prior to riding; time-release versions reduce the likelihood of falling drowsy while on the motorcycle.
Conclusion
Not to worry if you’re apprehensive about what it will be like to go skydiving. The chances of your stomach dropping when you jump from a plane are slim to none!
