What is an ash dump door?
In most fireplaces, ash dump doors are the small brick-sized doors at the bottom. The doors under the fireplace allow you to sweep the ashes into an ash pit.
How do you use an ash dump door?
A chimney’s ash dump door is a door located at the bottom of the chimney for the purpose of removing ashes and soot that have been generated while burning. When burning, the ashes are pushed to the grate at the back of the fireplace, where they fall to the chimney’s access point below.
