Fireplace Ash Shovel? - Kylon Powell

Writer Robert King

Should you leave a bed of ash in your fireplace?

Allowing a 1-inch layer of ashes to build up on the fireplace’s floor is recommended by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). Those coals are insulated by that ash, allowing your fire to burn hotter. When the ash accumulates to a depth greater than one inch, as well as at the conclusion of the burning season, it should be removed.

What is a fire shovel used for?

A shovel can put out small grass or surface fires. You can also quickly shovel soil on a fire to smother it, or make a small fire break in its path. If you have a large amount of smouldering embers that need to be broken up, you can use a heavy-duty shovel to do the job.

Can I use a shop vac for Ashes?

There is a limit to how much ashes can be removed with a shovel, which is the most common method of removing them. A vacuum is a must to get into all of the corners and crevices! However, you shouldn’t use a regular vacuum or a shop vac to get the job done. When removing ashes, only an Ash vacuum should be used.

Can I vacuum fireplace ash?
