Does herringbone tiling use more tiles?

Vertical HerringboneBecause of the additional cuts needed in a herringbone pattern, it is recommended that you use 15% more tiles to make allowances for any cuts or breakages.

Can any tile be herringbone?

Quite a bit, in fact. As long as the width of the tile is equal to or less than the length, you can create a herringbone pattern with any rectangular tile. Herringbone mosaic tiles are also available for a more delicate, smaller format herringbone pattern.

Do you need special tiles for herringbone?

Quite a few! It is possible to lay any rectangular tile in the fish bone pattern, from small mosaics to large planks. In practice, we prefer large wood-effect tiles and brick-effect tiles.
