How Cold Does It Have To Be To Kill Ants?

Writer Andrew Davis

Temperatures in the teens and lower quickly kill fire ants. At the University of Tennessee Trial Garden’s weather station in Knoxville, the coldest temperature recorded so far in 2014 was 37 degrees F at a depth of 12 inches below ground. Ants at this depth have not yet encountered temperatures that would be lethal to them.
