How hard is EMT school?

Writer Andrew Davis

You have to differentiate between the level of EMT that the person is preparing for and the level of experience that they have in EMS i.e. If a person has no prior EMS experience and they want to be an EMT-B then they will find it very difficult, but if they are an EMT-B with 30 years of field experience, I don’t think you could ever get them to not like it. My experience with EMS is that the majority of people really enjoy what they do and would never go back.

After all that let’s look at the average pay for an EMT in America. According to Payscale.com, the average EMT in America makes between $30,000 and $40,000 per year. The best city, according to payscale.com for an EMT to work in is Fresno California with an average salary of $54,000.

The worst city you can be an EMT in America if you’re looking for high pay is Payette Idaho an average of $27,000.

Now let’s put the cost and the salary together. So if you don’t include any entrance fees or pre-tests you will spend around $5000 for your EMT classes, which is not bad at all, but what about after school? If we say that an EMT will make $45,000 a year after EMT school, how to do the math?

So after you take all this into consideration an EMT makes around 50k a year. I know there are always expenses that may come up so it is possible you don’t have to spend all that money or you can spend a little more.

So if you’re looking to become an EMT the school graduation rate is pretty good, there are always expenses. I hope this helped you become a better-informed consumer.
