How Long Does it take Deer to find the Corn?

Writer Rachel Davis

Corn is one of the best sources of energy, particularly for an animal like deer which is considered to be the fastest and shows its running skills most of the time when a lion tries to make it a prey. But corns have some drawbacks for these animals. Being ruminants, deer fall prey to the starch present in corn as a result of which they end up disturbing their own digestive system. That’s the reason why deer face a lot of problems when they eat corn in large quantities. For the same reason, the staff present in a zoo doesn’t provide the deer with a large quantity of corn.

Deer is unaware of the disadvantages of corn which is why it runs towards corn unintentionally, even if it has to find it. If you put corn somewhere and wait there to see if the deer arrives, you’ll notice that it’ll come in between 1-3 days towards it. For the same reason, the hunters use this technique to capture it and then either eat its meat or use it in a zoo for exhibition. That’s why WWF has restricted the use of corn in places where deer are in larger numbers so that they may not become endangered.

Hoof problems in deer are also caused by excessive consumption of corn. In this problem, its feet start becoming sore and cause it to lift only one foot at a time to relieve some pressure on its hooves. Deer face a lot of difficulties in walking also while facing this problem. So, even if the deer takes less time to find corn, the use of it must be avoided in order for it to live long and to not fall prey to various problems.
