How long does it take for cropped ears to heal?
Sarah Silva
It can take 4-8 weeks for someone with cropped ears to heal. However, it’s really important that you give your ears time to heal.
Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing Aro... Silky Terrier Dog Breed Playing AroundIf they are not allowed to heal properly then infection, healing problems, and scarring can result. It is very possible for someone who has their ears cropped to experience re-piercing of the ear either before it has completely healed or at a later date.
There is a risk of hypertrophic scarring, keloid formation, and auricular chondrodermatitis when a person has their ears pierced too early in the healing process.
Auricular chondrodermatitis is a reaction on the ear due to pressure or friction against the edges of the cartilage that is causing inflammation.
This is not an infection but the ear may become painful, swollen, and red with overlying skin flaking off. Skin can soften after repeated exposure to friction against it. This condition is rare but does occur widely in underdeveloped countries where piercings are carried out on very young children’s ears by non-professional practitioners. The skin will usually return to normal after the pressure and friction against it are stopped.
In conclusion, it is best to leave your piercing heal by itself and not play with the earrings. This might take more than 5 weeks but you have to make sure that everything is working normally.
If you have questions or further concerns, please contact your piercer. Call them up and ask the piercing professional about the matter. Try to be calm and speak clearly so that they will understand you better. A good piercer should try his best to answer all of your queries. After all, he/ she is responsible for carrying out the treatment.
So, if you want to get a piercing, just do it right and responsibly. If you fail to do so, there might be serious implications later on.
