How long does it take for resin to cure?

Writer Andrew Davis

From the first time you mix resin and hardener together, it takes about 30 minutes to an hour for your creation to become solid. You should only handle the objects once they’ve hardened. If mixed correctly, your resin pieces should be done curing in 1-8 hours. Once finished, allow them to sit overnight before handling again.

Depending on the size and thickness of your pieces, they should be fully cured after 2-24 hours. If there’s any moisture on your objects, use a hairdryer to speed up this process. Once mixed together, resin takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour for full curing. Large items that are thicker in size can take up to 24 hours for this process.

If the surface of your item is still sticky or tacky, you might need to apply an extra layer or two of resin. If your project is thicker in size, it may need more time to cure completely.

Keep in mind that if you color your resin, it could take longer for it to cure. After the resin has been poured, it may still be workable for a few hours. You can test this by pressing your finger onto its surface—if you leave a fingerprint, it’s not done curing yet. If there isn’t any sticky residue left on your finger after several minutes, then the object has cured.

This could take anywhere from 1-8 hours, depending on the size and thickness of your object. If you notice any tackiness or stickiness on your project after this time period, it hasn’t finished curing yet.

Depending on the size and thickness of your pieces, full curing will usually take 2-24 hours. If you’re using large, thick pieces of resin, it can take up to 48 hours for this process.

Once the resin has been poured into your molds, check on them every 15 minutes or so. As soon as there is no tackiness or stickiness—and no fingerprints when pressed onto the surface—it’s finished curing.
