How long does it take spaghetti to cook?

It takes less than 15 Minutes for Spaghetti to cook. Spaghetti is a popular noodle dish consisting of boiled spaghetti noodles and sauce. The noodles are typically cut or broken into lengths of about 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm), although other sizes such as linguine are also common.

The sauce and oil can also affect how long it takes for spaghetti to become tender: adding sauce and/or olive oil may increase the cooking time slightly. The thickness of the spaghetti noodle affects cooking times as well: thinner spaghetti cooks faster than the thick ones.
The best way to cook spaghetti is in a large pot of boiling water, and then draining it when tender, usually after 8–9 minutes. Some people recommend cooking pasta 1 minute less than its given time since overcooking will make the noodles too mushy.
When pasta is almost done, the sauce should be prepared and applied immediately. If not, the excess starch from the pasta will make the water in the pot thicken and eventually scorch.
There are two exceptions: when cooking large batches of spaghetti (usually around 100 servings), it’s better to cook them al dente since the cooked spaghetti will continue to cook for a few minutes. This way, it can be served as soon as it is done cooking.
The other exception involves fruit or tomato-based pasta sauces: these sauces contain ingredients that should not be cooked too long, or boiled at all. Some people believe they should only be warmed after being applied to the cooked spaghetti.
Some people recommend cooking spaghetti in a large pot of boiling water, and once tender to transfer it immediately into cold water so that the noodles do not overcook. The cold water cooling causes the spaghetti noodles to get firm and become difficult to eat.
