How long does it take to crochet a scarf?

Writer Sarah Silva

Two or three days are enough to crochet a scarf. Depending on your crochet skills, you can make it longer or wider. Crochet scarves are very popular among people during winter times. You can find one for yourself or make one as a gift for any occasion.

It is possible to crochet a scarf in less time than two days if this scarf will be small and simple (most probably for a doll or for a child).

Long and wide crochet scarves will take more time to be finished than smaller and simpler ones. Make sure not to underestimate the amount of yarn needed. You can always check this by crocheting a small part first, to see how many balls you’ll need before buying them. So it is important to buy several balls of yarn and you’ll be sure that the scarf will fit your taste.

Before starting, make sure you know: How to crochet: Chain stitch (ch), Single Crochet (SC), and Double Crochet (DC) Basic stitches: Slip Stitch (SL ST). Half-double crochet (HDC), etc.

To crochet a scarf you will need Yarn, a Crochet hook (according to the yarn size – choose the best for your type of yarn), scissors, Sewing needles.

Measurements of finished crochet scarf: Width – from one end to another of your future finished piece. Please note that it is stretchy and depends on how you tension your yarn as you crochet. Length – this is the total length of the scarf (if you want to make a neck scarf, for example, consider that it should be long enough to cover the front/back).

Crochet Scarf Pattern: The pattern depends on what type of stitch you choose to do and how wide you want your finished piece to be. The pattern presented below is for a scarf that is done in a single crochet stitch, with one side wider than the other (the wide side corresponds to the center back – the narrower part will wrap around your neck).
