How Long Does it take to get used to Invisalign?

Writer Emily Cortez

If you want your teeth to be straightened in order to make them look good, Invisalign is for you. It is a dental treatment consisting of a number of aligners that help in straightening your teeth. It is a bit different from traditional methods because it uses flexible plastic instead of metal wires to get the job done for you. But most people are afraid of it since the plastic has very little weight and they feel like they are not getting proper treatment.

However, people who start this dental treatment seem to ask this question quite often: How long does it take to get used to Invisalign? Basically, during the first month of this treatment, patients don’t feel much comfortable, particularly around the cheeks because they don’t wear aligners all the time. Most dentists recommend wearing clear aligners for no less than 20 hours a day. Patients should just remove them while they’re eating or at the dentist’s office for a checkup. If such an odd object which you haven’t even seen in your entire life will stay in your mouth for the next few months, it will surely cause discomfort but for a maximum of 2-3 weeks.

In order to get rid of the discomfort caused by these aligners, most dentists recommend using pain relievers twice or thrice a day, you may consult your physician in case you still feel any discomfort. Apart from that, cold compresses also get this job done if you apply them to the areas around your jaw. Moreover, if there are any sharp edges on the aligners, just smooth them down for your own comfort. This will not hurt your jaws and you’ll feel comfortable. Just use these ways and you’ll be out of pain and get used to Invisalign in two weeks or so.
