How Long Does It Take To Reset An iPhone?

Writer Rachel Davis

Resetting an iPhone can be a difficult task. All your data, contacts, and stored content are gone, so you’re back to square one. The process is usually a lot easier if iTunes can restore the data. However, this can only be done after the device has completed resetting. Resetting times may differ depending on your iPhone type.

Requirement Time

Resetting an iPhone is usually not difficult. After the reset command is entered, your phone will restart with all data deleted. The average time it takes to restart an iPhone is a few minutes. This does not include the time needed to reconfigure its settings. Older iPhone models might take longer depending on the method used to remove data.

Longer Reset Times

There is no reason to wait for your iPhone to reset unless it is an older model. Your phone may not be able to reset itself if it keeps trying for more than an hour. This is a sign that your phone has gone through an error. To fix it, load the Recovery Mode app on your phone and then reset it. If the Resetting from Recovery Mode doesn’t work, it could be an issue with the iPhone’s hardware. Apple technical support can assist you with specialized solutions and diagnoses if this happens.

How to Reset Factory

You will need to open the Settings app on your iPhone in order to perform a factory reset. Tap “General” and then “Reset.” Next, you will need to choose a reset option. To perform a complete factory reset, select “Erase all settings and content.” After you confirm your desire to reset your phone, the process should start immediately.

Recovery Mode

If the iPhone’s factory reset option is not working or the device isn’t responding, then recovery mode can be used. You will need to connect the Lightning to USB cable from your iPhone to the computer to activate recovery mode. Don’t yet connect the cable to your iPhone. After turning off your phone, press and hold both the “Home” button and the “sleep” button simultaneously until the screen turns black. Next, press and hold down the “Home” button to connect your phone to the Lightning USB cable. Keep pressing the “Home” button down until it says “Connect to iTunes.” At that point, you can release this button to launch iTunes on your computer. After iTunes loads, the recovery process begins. Follow the instructions on the screen to restore your iPhone.

There are many reasons to reset

You may need to factory reset your iPhone for a variety of reasons. Resetting the iPhone to factory defaults can resolve issues with the device if it is experiencing software or hardware problems. Factory resetting the phone to clear any personal data or apps can prepare it for resale. You may need to factory reset your iPhones if they are part of a corporate deployment.
