Writer Rachel Davis

Double-flared plugs and tunnels can only be worn on healed ears, so you’ll need to use a different method for this type of plug. Double flared plugs should be avoided for four to eight weeks after stretching your ears.

Why can’t I get my double flared plugs in?

It’s common for people who have never worn double flare plugs before to have trouble doing so. A plug with flares on both ends is referred to as a “double flared plug” (the flares are actually slightly larger than the actual center).

Should I size down for double flared plugs?

A double flared plug is a cylindrical piece of jewelry with flared ends on both sides. In order for the flare to fit through, the piercing must have a larger hole than your gauge size.

How long should I wait to gauge up my ears?

A blowout is more likely if you increase the gauge (measured in multiples of 2) when switching to a larger piece of jewelry. Increasing sizes can also be delayed for up to six weeks by many people. As the size of your jewelry increases, so does the amount of time you must wait.

Are double flared plugs bad for your ears?

As long as your earlobes have fully recovered, double flared plugs are ideal. Due to their size and complexity, they aren’t recommended to those who are just beginning their journey.

Why do gauges stink?

Dead skin and oil produced by your skin, referred to as sebum, are the source of the odor in your ears. If you keep your plugs/tunnels in all the time, the sebum and the dead skin get stuck in your piercings. Sebum and dead skin cells get stuck in your pores, causing this problem.

Is double flare or single flare better?

The single flare is nearly identical to the double flare in terms of appearance. Despite their similar appearance, the double flare is significantly more durable and capable of withstanding higher levels of pressure within the braking system. Vehicles imported from Europe are known for their use of the double flare.

Do you have to double flare brake lines?

Due to the high hydraulic pressure, all brake lines must be double flared. If your brakes or hoses burst or leak, it could be deadly. For low-pressure applications, single flared lines can be used, but not for braking.

How do you wear flare plugs?

Gently pull down on the plug and pop the other end of the flare through your ear, making sure to insert the flare into your ear canal. If inserting the plugs causes discomfort, stop immediately.
