How much green Glue should I use?
To get the same results as 2 tubes, apply just a single tube of Green Glue to a 4′′ x 8′′ sheet. Low-frequency performance near the primary resonance is enhanced by using three tubes per 4′′8′′ sheet. Using more than three tubes per sheet is not recommended. If you overuse Green Glue, you’ll see a decrease in performance.
Is Green Glue worth the cost?
For low-frequency sounds in particular, Green Glue does a great job of noise reduction and is well worth the price.
How much does Green Glue reduce sound?
The result is dramatic – just one layer of Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound in between two sheets of drywall can eliminate up to 90 percent of noise, even at low frequencies.
How long does Green Glue take to start working?
Drying time of 30 days is required for optimal sound isolation performance with Green Glue. Green Glue requires 7 to 10 days of drying time before it begins to improve sound isolation. A combination of high humidity, cold temperatures, and multiple drywall layers can significantly slow the drying time.
How many tubes of Glue do I need for drywall?
The Green Glue Company recommends 2 tubes per sheet of 4 x 8 drywall and most testing shows that 2 tubes offers the best STC return on investment.
Which is better Green Glue or Mass loaded vinyl?
Compared to Green Glue, mass-loaded vinyl can improve wall performance, but at low frequencies, it performs significantly worse. Green Glue, on the other hand, is less expensive and easier to apply than MLV. While it’s common advice to hang MLV loosely, it works better when placed in the middle of a sandwich.
Can you apply Green Glue to mass loaded vinyl?
While Green Glue dampens the wall, Mass Loaded Vinyl adds Limp Mass. Both of these products can be used together and are frequently employed in this way.
Can Green Glue be removed?
Before the Green Glue dries, be sure to remove it from any unwanted surfaces. To remove Green Glue, use Isopropyl Alcohol at a 70 percent concentration. Within 15 minutes of applying the Green Glue, assemble the Green Glue panels. While the Green Glue is still wet, the sheets must be screwed together.
Do I need Green Glue?
Yes, Green Glue has a dual purpose when applied to floors: it reduces impact (footstep) noise as well as airborne sound, and it does so very effectively. A thinset mortar joint can benefit from the use of Green Glue as an adhesive between the thinset and the surfaces below.
How much STC does Green Glue add?
When applied to common wood stud walls, Green Glue improves their sound isolation from mediocre to excellent. A 12 dB improvement in low frequency performance is possible when using Green Glue on similar-weight walls.
