How often should you shower when pregnant?

Writer Sarah Silva

There isn’t a right or wrong answer. It depends on how you feel and what your doctor says. Try to shower every other day, and use water that’s not too hot (you don’t want to raise your body temperature too much). Your skin may get more dry than usual, but try using a moisturizing soap or body wash for this.

There are many things that determines how many times you should shower when pregnant. The most important thing you should know is that your skin and body has gone through so many changes and it is now more sensitive than before. You may need to shower every day or every other day depending on how you feel and what your doctor says.

If you think you smell bad, chances are they will too so use soap without too much scent if possible. Your skin’s getting dry so using a moisturizing wash or soap might be best for this time of the month.

We all have different opinions when it comes to taking showers during pregnancy, but I can tell you what my doctor told me…

After you become pregnant, your body will go through a lot of changes including an increased blood flow which means your sweat glands will get activated. When your sweat glands are active, you’ll start to notice that you produce a stronger odor than usual. I was advised by my doctor to take daily showers so I wouldn’t upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in my skin which can cause bacterial or fungal infections such as candidiasis or dermatitis.

One thing about having a baby is that everything changes for nine months and showering habits should also be modified during this time. “Your body temperature increases during pregnancy,” said Alison Langley, OB/GYN specialist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. “You’re not trying to raise your own temperature too much by taking hot showers.”
