Put on Those Boots
When fitting new boots, the first thing to do is insert your foot into the shaft of the boot and grasp the pull tabs.
- The shaft of your boot is where your calf will rest.
- The boot may have holes or tabs that assist with pulling it on.
When you pull the boots beyond the resistance point in your arch, you will hear a faint popping sound as your foot enters its resting spot. The resistance point is located at the top of your arch and your heel within the shaft.
Check for Slight Heel Lift
The heel lift refers to the space between your heel and the boot’s insole. This is caused by some extra space between the arch and the toe of the boot. For a comfortable and proper fit, this space should not exceed 1/8th inch.
You may feel some resistance as you pull on the boots. This is normal as it allows the boot to fit snugly and ensures that your heel has the proper heel lift.
Find the Right
After you’ve put the boots on, it’s time for you to check that they fit. For a perfect fit, ensure that the largest part of your foot touches the boot’s sole.
When your feet are comfortable, get up and stand in your boots. Use your sideways thumb to measure the distance between your tip and the boot’s end. Your toe should be about one thumb wide from the end. These are some things to remember:
- Your toes are housed in the toe box. It is the part of the boot that runs from the bottom of your toes to the tip of your boot. A wider toe box will be more common for larger toe shapes.
- Everyone’s toes may be different in length, so it’s a good idea for everyone to keep a sideways thumb distance between the tip of their toe and the end of the box.
