Lift the battery cover by rotating it around while pressing on the faceplate. Remove the four AA batteries by pulling the ribbon. Replace both batteries with two non-rechargeable CR123 lithium batteries with the positive (+) ends pointing up, if necessary. Remove and discard the old batteries. The Smart Lock will flash green three times after you replace both batteries, the last of which will be the longest. Replacing the faceplate on the August Smart Lock is as simple as placing it back on and orienting it so the August logo is at the bottom.

Check to see that your Smart Lock’s batteries are properly installed and that the light is flashing green. The August Lock is supplied by 4 AA batteries, which should last for about six months. To be on the safe side, avoid utilizing rechargeable batteries, according to August. Not to worry, the app will notify you when the battery is 20% used up. It’s possible you’ll continue to get low-battery warnings even after you replace them. Once you’ve used the App three times to control the lock, the alerts should go away. In the August App, you cannot see the battery level of your August devices, but you will be alerted when the batteries in your August devices are low. When the battery capacity of a lock drops below 25%, a low-battery message appears on the unlock screen of your phone. This should put an end to the low-battery warnings until the batteries are down to 25% capacity again.

Remove the existing August Smart Lock from the mounting plate by pulling up on the side latches. After that, replace the current mounting plate with the one that came with your August Smart Lock 3rd Generation. To set up a new device, go to the August App and click on Set up a New Device.
