A flat round 3-volt battery, that can be obtained at almost any hardware shop, is used in the majority of Honda key fobs.

Whenever the battery in your Honda keyless remote runs out, take the steps below to open the key fob, remove/replace the battery, and then reassemble the key fob. When the battery in your Honda keyless remote runs out, here’s what you need to know:

1. Slide the metal key out by pressing and sliding the button that releases it.

2. Pry the key fob open with the key or a smaller flat screwdriver.

3. Hold the fob together with your thumb just above the battery to keep the contents and external buttons from falling out.

4. Uninstall the old battery, making a notation of the positive and negative ends so that the new battery can be installed correctly. Don’t touch the new battery’s terminals. Corrosion can be caused by the oils on your skin, which reduces battery life.

5. Put the newer battery in the exact same position as the older battery. As a guide, use the positive and negative marks on the inside of the key fob.

6. Align the key fob’s two parts and gently press them together until they snap back together.

Use your spare key as a guide to reassemble your key fob if the internal bits fall out.

1. Arrange the buttons in the appropriate slots.

2. Place the crossbar between the top two buttons’ empty areas, with the curvature of the crossbar facing outwards.

3. Replace the battery in the motherboard, the positive sign facing out.

4. Replace the motherboard in the key fob, ensuring that the rubber film is pressed against the buttons.

5. Align the back and front of the key fobs and press them firmly till they fit into position.

6. Stand next to your vehicle and test all of the buttons to ensure they are operational.
