Step 1

Lift the hatch in the rear.

Step 2

Locate the two screws along the side of the hatch on the rear of the taillight assembly. Take off the two screws using the screwdriver.

Step 3

Take off the rear taillight assembly, however, take in mind that the principal wire harness is linked to it. Certain models of later Cherokees may also feature a ball socket under the taillight assembly. It could require a tiny amount of pressure to release.

Step 4

Remove and locate your brake lamp. There are typically three lamps in the Jeep Cherokee rear taillight assembly and the highest lamp is called the brake light. Twist the rear on the lamp counterclockwise, to take the bulb off the back of the light assembly.

Step 5

Take the brake light out from the socket and replace an alternative bulb. Make sure you have an assister push the brake pedal to make sure that the light is working prior to installing the fixture.

Step 6

Place the socket and bulb in the rear light assembly, then rotate clockwise until it secures itself.

Attach the taillight assembly, and then tighten and replace those two screws. Close the hatch on the rear.
