- Take out the metal ignition key — You should be able to see a small slider tab. Push the tab to the outer edge of the key fob, which will release the metal ignition key. Once you’ve done that, pull the bottom part of the key fob downward. After that, the key should come right out. Be sure to set the emergency key aside so that you don’t lose it.
- Pry apart the fob — With the buttons of the key fob facing up, look close into the slot where the emergency key should be. You should be able to see two notches that are on the plastic bottom edge of the key fob. Take your time and insert your flathead screwdriver right into one of the notches, and use it to pry apart the two halves of the fob. If it’s not working, give the other notch a try. Take off the top part of the fob.
- Change the battery — With the top half removed, you should see the battery. Carefully pry it out with your screwdriver, so that you don’t scratch the components. Push in the new battery and make sure that the positive side is facing up.
- Put they key fob back together —Line up the front half as well as the rear cover of your key fob. Once completed, push them together, making sure that they flush well at each edge. Push the metal ignition key into the slot until you hear it click into place.
