How To Change Oakley Lenses

Writer Gabriel Cooper

The majority of Oakley frames available today come with lenses that can be replaced. However, depending on the type of frame, the method used to alter your lenses will vary.

1. Full Rim Twin Lens

To replace the lenses in your full-rim twin lenses just follow the three steps below:

  1. Start at the rear of the frame and make use of the thumbs as a push the lens to move it forward (Note that if you try to push from the front, you will not be able to do it due to the backstop to protect against impact)
  2. There should be a sound that indicates the lens has been released
  3. To put in a new lens, reverse the procedure, by lining with the groove in the lens and pushing the lens back towards the back of your frame. Repeat this process.

2. Semi-Rim Twin Lens

The lens change in your semi-rim frames may require some force, however, it is possible to do so using the following steps:

  1. Securely hold the frame to the opposite side and then spread the legs wide to let go of the hooks marked below.
  2. It is important to concentrate on the hook in the nose first since it’s usually the largest hook, however, once it’s released, the lens should be able to slide out of the frame.
  3. In order to insert a new lens, begin by inserting the lens by using the hook close to the nose first and then push the remaining lens inside the frame

3. Semi-Rim Shield Lens

The process of changing the Semi-Rim shield lens is quite unique to other frames because the nose piece plays an important role within the entire process. Check out the three steps below for the steps to change the lenses on these:

  1. In the direction of the front move the nosepiece backward (towards the lens itself) till the lens is released from the groove of the nosepiece.
  2. Then pull the lens free from the frame till it completely let’s go.
  3. To reverse the procedure, begin by pushing the nosepiece again inward, and aligning the lens with the piece. Then then, move the lens back into the frame until it is secure

4. Switchlock Frames

Switchlock frames are among the most convenient to switch lenses for. They all come with a mechanism, usually jaws or switches – that opens the lens. To change lenses inside the Switchlock frame, follow these steps:

  1. Find your “switch” or “jaw” on your frame. It is the lock mechanism used to unlock and secure your lens.
  2. Switchlock mechanism and release the Switchlock mechanism, then take off your lens.
  3. To put in a new lens, just guide the lens through the grooves of the frame, and then close the Switchlock mechanism.
