How to change pedals on peloton

Writer John Campbell

For removing the pedals from the Peloton bike, you have to have the proper tools from the start. What you require is a 15mm wrench for the box-end of your bike. Instead, I suggest using the Tekton WRN53115 Wrench.

When you ride the Peloton bike and the left pedal is with a reverse thread. That means when you remove the pedal it must be turned clockwise. It’s not the way you remove the normal bicycle pedals. Therefore, place the jaws of the 15mm wrench in the pedal-crankarm gap. It is recommended to keep the wrench straight, at a 90-degree angle towards the bolt on the pedal. By holding the wrench in this place helps to prevent cross-threading of the bolt of the pedal.

The right pedal on the Peloton has standard right-side threading. This means that you loosen the right side pedal in the same manner as you loosen a normal mountain bike or road bicycle pedal. Put your wrench in between the crankarm and the pedal. Then, you can turn the bolt clockwise in order to loosen it. When the pedal is sufficiently free, it can be removed with your hands.

Before you begin installing the pedals to the Peloton bike, be sure to secure the drivewheels and the crank. To do this, you simply adjust the resistance knob of your exercise machine fully towards the right. It’s as easy as it gets. It’s not necessary to grease the threads on the pedal or the crankarm’s threads. All you have to do is ensure that you don’t over-tighten the pedal bolts. If you tighten the pedals excessively, you’ll damage them. In addition, you’ll create an issue in the future. You’ll have a difficult time taking the pedals off on the road.

Next, you need to figure out which pedal is connected to the right side and which one is on the left. Usually, the bike pedals are clearly labeled. When you screw the pedals on your Peloton bicycle, ensure not to torque too much on the bolt for the pedal. If you overtighten the bolt, it would be a pain to remove it afterward.
